Busan – a popular holiday destination in South Korea, a paradise for seafood, and the city of film festivals. But for me, it also holds a special significance: it is my “healing sanctuary after sun exposure”.
Every summer, I go to Haeundae Beach in Busan to relax for a few days, but it also means that every time I return, my face is covered in red from sunburn. That was until a local friend introduced me to Genius Clinic Busan – a hidden gem of a clinic specializing in post-sunburn recovery and vacation skin care in the Haeundae area.

🌞 What exactly is a “first aid plan after sun exposure”?
😰 What exactly happens to our skin when it gets sunburned?
After being exposed to the sun by the beach for a whole day, your skin actually suffers from the following damage:
- UVB causes direct burns to the epidermis, resulting in redness, heat, and stinging sensations – essentially what is known as “sunburn”.
- The deep damage caused by UVA rays to the dermis leads to collagen breakdown and accelerated aging.
- The excessive production of free radicals leads to an increased risk of inflammatory reactions and pigmentation.
- Damage to the sebum film → Decreased ability of the skin to retain moisture
- The secondary damage caused by seawater and salt: dehydration, itching, and increased sensitivity.
Therefore, post-sunburn repair is not simply about “making the redness disappear” – you need to address four issues simultaneously: inflammation, dehydration, photo damage, and damaged skin barriers.
🚑 Genius’ “Three-step Emergency Treatment After Sun Exposure”
The post-tanning repair regimen designed by Director Genius consists of three steps, which I refer to as the “Emergency Trio”:
Step 1: Calming and reducing redness (about 20 minutes)
- Apply a wet compress using low-temperature saline solution (not ordinary toner, but medically grade isotonic saline).
- In combination with low-energy LED red light irradiation, it can reduce the ONDO of the skin surface and inhibit inflammatory factors.
- Apply a soothing gel containing aloe vera, sage, and vitamin B5.
The goal of this step is to put out the “fire” first – to help your skin calm down from its “burned” state. After completing this step, the redness and stinging sensations usually decrease by more than 50%.
Step 2: Deep hydration + repair (about 25 minutes)
- The iontophoresis device delivers reparative ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and panthenol (B5) directly into the dermis.
- It uses high-concentration original solutions of medical grade (not those serums that have been diluted dozens of times and are commonly available on the market).
- Combined with the use of a cold spray device, this helps to continuously replenish moisture into the skin.
The goal of this step is to restore the skin’s ability to retain moisture. Sea water and sunlight can cause the skin to become severely dehydrated, and this step is aimed at replenishing that lost moisture.
Step 3: Barrier reconstruction + protection (about 15 minutes)
- Apply a thick layer of the repair cream containing ceramide complex.
- Physical sun protection (irritation-free sunscreens primarily containing zinc oxide) – Note: Do not use chemical sunscreens after your skin has been sunburned!
- Oral antioxidant supplements (vitamin C + E, provided by the clinic)
The goal of this step is to prevent secondary damage – after sunburn, the skin’s barrier becomes extremely fragile and requires comprehensive protection.
🏖️ My three experiences with Genius post-tanning repair services
📆 First time: Last July – severe sunburn
Last July, when I went to Haeundae, I realized that I hadn’t applied enough SPF 50 sunscreen (I forgot to reapply it), and as a result, my shoulders, chest, and entire face turned red like cooked shrimp – touching them even caused pain.
That afternoon, I rushed to Genius Clinic. Upon seeing my face, the director of Genius immediately said, “This is a second-degree sunburn; no laser treatments can be done today. We should start with the emergency treatment routine first.”
Effect: On the same night after the treatment, the swelling had reduced by about 60%. The next day, although there was still some redness, it no longer caused pain. By the third day, my skin had basically returned to its normal color (although there were still some signs of peeling). Under normal circumstances, it would take a week for the skin to recover from such sun damage, but I only needed three days.
📆 Second instance: March this year – mild to moderate sunburn during spring.
The sunlight in Busan in March can also be quite harsh! This time I went fishing (don’t ask why a girl would go fishing), and as a result, my face and arms turned slightly red and hot from the sun. It wasn’t as bad this time, but I still went to Genius to get a mild post-sunburn treatment—they only performed steps two and three, skipping the first step, which involves a strong sedative.
Cost: Approximately 80,000 Korean won (about 2,160 Taiwanese dollars), which is cheaper than the full trilogy. Effect: The redness disappeared by the same evening, and the next day, my skin was even in better condition than before I got tanned (because it had been replenished with moisture and nutrients).
📆 Third time: August this year – “Preventive” management
This time, I was smart enough to go to Genius first before heading to the beach. There, I underwent a “preventive enhancement treatment” – which consisted of an enhanced version of basic skincare combined with high-concentration antioxidant treatments – in order to ensure that my skin was in its strongest condition before being exposed to the sun.
After spending the whole day at the beach, I came back home and found that my skin was still a bit red (it’s impossible to avoid sunburn completely), but it was much less severe than the previous two times. That evening, I followed the standard three-step emergency treatment routine for sunburn, and by the next day, my skin had fully recovered.
This has made me deeply realize that prevention is just as important as timely repair.
