“Laser clinic” – these four words came to my mind when I underwent a Pico treatment at a medical aesthetics clinic in Taiwan. Enter the clinic, lie down, put on the protective glasses, listen to the beeping sounds, apply the mask, and then leave. The whole process took less than 30 minutes, and the technician didn’t even say a word to me. As for the results? Well, there were some effects, but they were far from what I had expected.
It wasn’t until a friend who was studying in South Korea recommended the Danya Skin Clinic in Myeongdong that I decided to give it a try. She said that the director of this clinic “definitely doesn’t operate in a mass-production style.” I went there half-believing, and well… I’ve never returned since. Today, I’ll tell you in detail why.
🏥 What kind of institution is DAN-A Dermatology in Myeongdong?
📍 Basic Information
DAN-A Dermatology is located in the heart of the Myeongdong shopping district in Seoul’s Jung-gu district, but not on the main streets – rather in a quiet side alley. This location speaks volumes: the clinic relies not on tourist traffic but on word-of-mouth recommendations to survive.
- Address: Near 1-myeongdong-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul (the detailed Korean address will be provided after reservation)
- Transportation: Exit 5 of “Myeongdong Station” on Line 4 of the subway, approximately 3 to 5 minutes on foot
- Opening hours: 10:00~20:00 (Monday to Saturday), closed on Sundays
- On behalf of Director Danya, the female Dermatology specialist and director of the institution…
- Special services: skin mapping diagnosis, precise freckle removal, customized laser treatments, and Filler adjustments.
👩⚕️ Why is Director Danya so special?
Director Danya is a female physician with over 10 years of experience in the field of Dermatology. What sets her apart is her extreme emphasis on the diagnostic process—she believes that 80% of the treatment outcome depends on the first 20 minutes of the consultation, rather than the subsequent treatment procedures.
She developed her own “Skin Mapping Diagnosis” method, which I will explain in detail later. The core concept of this method is:
Each person’s freckles, acne scars, and dull skin have different “layers” and “causes”; using the same laser to treat all types of spots is simply ineffective.

🗺️ What exactly is this “map-based diagnosis” – some kind of advanced technology?
🔍 Step 1: High-definition skin scanning
At DAN-A Dermatology, the first step is not to have you lie down, but rather to perform a very detailed skin scan. The equipment used is much more advanced than that found in ordinary clinics, and it is capable of capturing images of:
- Epidermal layer: Visible spots, acne scars, and capillaries
- Dermis layer: Potential pigmentation (not yet visible on the surface but already in the process of forming)
- Deep ultraviolet radiation: The extent of damage caused by ultraviolet rays
The first time I tried it, I was shocked by my own “subcutaneous world” – on the surface, everything seemed normal, but under ultraviolet light, I could see many potential freckles emerging on both sides of my cheeks.
📊 Step 2: Create your own personal skin map
Based on the scan results, Director Danya will mark each type of skin issue on your facial photo.
- Location (accurate to the millimeter level)
- Depth (epidermis/upper dermis/lower dermis)
- Type (sunspots/chloasma/pockmark marks/post-inflammatory pigmentation, etc.)
- Severity level (on a scale of 1 to 5)
This is your personalized skin map. With this map, the treatment plan is no longer as simple and straightforward as just applying Pico treatments to the entire face.
🎯 Step 3: Customized solution design
According to this framework, Director Danya would design different treatment plans for each specific area. Taking myself as an example:
| region | problem | depth | Treatment plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| In the center of the forehead | Superficial sunspots | epidermis | Freckle-reducing laser + low energy |
| cheeks | Tendency towards deep-seated pigmentation spots and chloasma | dermis | Pico (high-energy) + oral medications |
| nose wings | acne scars | Superficial dermis | Dye laser (at a specific wavelength) |
| below the eyes | Tear trough correction and dullness | Structural | Laser treatment is not recommended; instead, PDRN injections should be used. |
| chin | Pigmentation | Epidermis + Dermis | Combination of fruit acid skin treatment and Pico therapy |
Do you see? Five different treatment methods were applied to five different areas of the face. This is exactly why I say that DAN-A is not just a factory – a factory would simply apply the same treatment to the entire area.
💆 My complete experience record
📋 First consultation (approximately 40 minutes)
This was one of the most thorough in-person consultations I have ever experienced. Director Danya didn’t just look at my face; she also asked a tremendous number of questions.
- Daily sun protection habits? (I admit I’m not very diligent enough…)
- Does the menstrual cycle affect skin condition? (Yes, I always get acne before my period.)
- What skincare products are you using currently? (I showed her a list.)
- What treatments have you undergone before? What were the results? (I honestly shared my experience with “Pico treatments at the clinic”).
- What aspect would you like to improve the most? (My answer: Flawles on my cheeks + uneven skin tone overall)
Then she began to analyze my skin profile, explaining while pointing at the annotations on the screen. Throughout the process, she used nearly 20 diagrams to help me understand the details—such patience and professionalism really put me at ease.
⛓️ First treatment: Fractional laser treatment (about 50 minutes)
Once the treatment plan was finalized, the treatment began. Director Danya personally performed the procedure, and the steps were as follows:
- Removal of makeup and cleansing → Use a mild medical facial cleanser
- Apply the numbing cream → Wait for 25 minutes (apply a relatively thick layer).
- Partition marking: Use a white pen to draw the boundaries of each area on the face.
- Treatment by area → The laser parameters used for each area are different!
- Postoperative recovery → Application of a medical repair mask for 15 minutes, followed by the use of SPF50+ sunscreen.
Here comes the key point: whenever she switched to a different treatment area, Director Danya would adjust the instrument parameters accordingly. For the Forehead, she used low-energy, small-spot light; for the cheeks, high-energy, large-spot light; and for the nose, she used a probe with a different wavelength. As I lay there watching her adjust the equipment continuously, I could only think one thing: this is what professionalism looks like.
😴 Pain and recovery
The degree of pain varies depending on the area affected:
- Forehead: It’s like getting scalded by hot water → 👌 Absolutely OK.
- Cheeks: Using an eraser to apply pressure + applying a little heat → 😅 It’s barely tolerable.
- Nasal alae: The most painful part! It feels like someone has pinched me → 🥴 But it only lasts for a few seconds.
After the procedure, my face turned slightly red, similar to the effect of sunburn. Once I got home, I strictly avoided sunlight exposure and applied restorative masks. On the third day, thin scabs began to form, and they mostly fell off by around the seventh day.

📅 Effect tracking: From the first day to three months
🗓️ Week 1: Recovery period
After the scabs fell off, my skin looked really delicate and pink. The color of those darkest spots on my cheeks faded by about Samseong. Whenever my friends saw me, they would ask if I had gone on vacation—actually, it was just because my skin had become brighter.
🗓️ Month 1: The period when results begin to improve gradually
One month later, during the follow-up examination, Dean Danya conducted a comparative scan. The potential dark spots in the deeper layers of the dermis had decreased by approximately 50%, and the visible spots on the epidermis also appeared much lighter. What surprised me the most was that the dark areas around the tear troughs, which had not been treated before, had also improved due to the overall lightening of my skin tone. This was truly an unexpected bonus.
🗓️ Months 2–3: Stabilization phase
After three months, my overall skin tone has lightened by at least two shades. The large spots on my cheeks have faded by about 70%, and the smaller spots are almost completely invisible now. Most importantly—there has been no recurrence of dark spots! This is extremely important for me, since I have a skin type that tends to develop dark spots easily.

- Dermatographic diagnosis truly offers differentiation—not just hype, but a tangible impact on treatment outcomes.
- Director Danya firmly refused to perform any ineffective procedures; she clearly told me which areas should not be treated with lasers. Such honesty is truly invaluable.
- The degree of customization in these personalized treatment areas far exceeds anything I have experienced at any other clinic.
- Female doctors are better able to understand the aesthetic needs of women, and their communication is smooth and natural.

⚠️ Important Notes
- The consultation takes a relatively long time (40 to 60 minutes), so it’s best not to schedule too many other appointments in close succession.
- The price is considered on the higher side of the average in the Myeongdong area, but it is definitely worth it.
- During peak periods, it is necessary to make reservations in advance; those who come without an appointment may not be able to get served immediately.
🔄 Comparison with local clinics in the same area
- S.Derma Dermatology (Myeongdong): The prices are lower and the quantities are larger, but the service is more standardized and there is no visual diagnostic assistance available.
- Kate Dermatology (Hongdae): Also focuses on technical treatments, particularly for freckle removal, but is located further away from Myeongdong.
- Lijin Clinic (Myeongdong): Its strength lies in manual injections rather than lasers, complementing the services offered by DAN-A.
If you are also troubled by the feeling that certain treatments seem to be of little use, or if you have a skin type that tends to darken easily, I highly recommend that you visit DAN-A Dermatology in Myeongdong. A proper diagnosis is the foundation of everything – Director Danya’s skin analysis and diagnostic approach are definitely worth the trip.
